"Lord, bless the crown of the year?" From the hymns marking the beginning of the Church Year (September 1).
None of us will easily or quickly forget the early fall of 2001, which brought with it the devastating events of September 11th. Each of us was changed. We prayed, we drew our families closer, we reflected on the freedom of our nation, we reviewed and revised our travel plans, our work schedules and perhaps even our investments. By making these changes to our lives (some would call them corrections), we sought to realign our priorities and values.
September begins the new Church Year as well, giving us yet another opportunity now to review and recommit our lives to Christ. As we mark the anniversary of the events of September 11, 2001, let us remember those who perished, and recall the positive corrections we implemented last fall. Let us ask the Lord with one voice, gathered together in His holy church and privately in our own prayers, to bless the crown of this year, and to bring us ever closer to Him in faith and in love.
